Katie Jacques M.Ed, LMHC

My view of therapy is deeply rooted in the belief that children have the innate capacity to heal, grow, and make sense of their world when given the space to do so on their own terms. I view therapy as a dynamic and flexible process that adapts to the unique needs, developmental levels, and personalities of each child. I believe that healing and growth occur most effectively within a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship—one in which children feel seen, heard, and accepted.

In my work with children, I draw upon both non-directive and directive techniques. Non-directive techniques such as child-centered play therapy allow the child to lead and express themselves freely while supporting autonomy and emotional expression. This approach honors the child’s internal experience and often reveals underlying themes that might not surface through verbal communication alone. At the same time, I incorporate directive methods when structure, skill-building, or targeted intervention is needed—particularly in addressing behavioral concerns, anxiety, or emotional regulation. These techniques may include cognitive-behavioral strategies, guided play, or structured activities tailored to build specific coping skills and foster insight.

In addition to my work with children, I also believe that integrating and supporting parents in their child’s therapy is essential for meaningful and lasting progress. Parents are their child’s first teacher and the one that knows the child best. Involving parents as active partners in the therapeutic process provides invaluable information to help guide therapy, helps to ensure consistency between counseling sessions and home life, and empowers parents with strategies tailored to their child’s unique needs.

Outside of the office, I love spending time with family and friends. I have two children ages 16 and 20. When I am not attending one of their soccer games, you will find me hiking, skiing, or planning my next travel adventure. I also enjoy curling up with my Bernese Mountain Dog to watch a movie or read a good book.
