What to expect:
Every person has a nervous system and a body. Our nervous systems and bodies carry the stories of our lives; our joys, sorrows, pains and traumas. From the moment we come into the world our nervous system is at work directing all major functions within the body. Everything we experience impacts our nervous systems; sometimes with lasting effects that can lead to disease and suffering. The goal of nervous system regulation is to support the autonomic nervous system in healthy functioning that may have been disrupted by chronic stress, disease, trauma or maladaptive conditioning.
We can support the nervous system by identifying maladaptive coping mechanisms within the body or over-dependence of certain modes of functioning within the autonomic nervous system. From there we can use simple tools to teach the nervous system to exist in new ways that are more balanced. In time, people can train their nervous systems to become more resilient, adaptive and balanced. This results in less chronic dysregulation which can manifest itself as anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain or disease. When people work with a nervous system regulation specialist they can learn how their unique nervous system functions, how to support balance and how to train for resilience. When people cultivate an adaptive and healthy nervous system they feel they can surf the waves of life; rest when it’s appropriate and perform at very high levels when required.
Sessions are different based on the unique needs of the individual but generally include gentle or dynamic movement, breathing practices, introspective awareness practice, meditation and mindfulness-based practices. As long as you can breathe you can benefit from nervous system regulation support.
