Even hearing the word anxiety causes a feeling of dread. For anyone who has experienced anxiety, the thought that anxiety could return is almost as bad as the experience itself. The bad news, anxiety is awful. The good news, anxiety is treatable. If anxiety has curbed your life in any way, we want to invite you to counseling. We want to work with you to reclaim your life from anxiety. You were made for much, much more than the lies anxiety would lead you to believe.
Anxiety is a common word and we hear it multiple times a day. What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a normal experience that everyone experiences at one time or another (starting school, taking a test, starting a new job). Low anxiety is more situational and circumstantial. Once the situation is past or becomes familiar the anxiety goes away.
Anxiety becomes problematic when it is a constant companion to us (intrusive thoughts, excessive worry about everyday issues, fear of daily tasks and fatigue). When the thought of going to work, in a job you that is not new, causes fear and worry, that is anxiety that is problematic. It is problematic because it is limiting you from being free in your life.
Although anxiety is common, it does not have to take control of your life.
Anxiety can feel like:
· Dread
· Fear
· Nervousness/Apprehension
· Panic
Anxiety can be experienced as:
· Restlessness
· Tension
· Increased sweating
· Rapid breathing
· Racing heart
· Insomnia
· Weakness
· Difficulty focusing on anything other than the anxiety producing thoughts or situation.
· Constantly reliving past trauma
Anxiety can slowly wear away our lives. Instead of living with freedom, we begin to look at life through the lens of avoiding anxiety. Maybe your impulse is to say yes, then you quickly doubt yourself and you say no because of anxiety. Dreams become small when we live with anxiety.
Anxiety counseling is an effective treatment for social anxiety, panic attacks and more.
Anxiety wants us to believe we are alone. The truth is you are not alone. Many people live with anxiety and are able to mask their anxious thoughts, increased sweating, racing heart and feelings of dread. Masking is not living. Masking is white-knuckling until the anxiety passes. Anxiety is treatable. Most research reveals that therapy is usually the most effective treatment. There is a time and a place for medication. Most medication works best in conjunction with therapy.
You get to run your life, not anxiety.
